Ever since Pusha T and No Malice (formerly known as Malice) went their separate ways some years ago the career trajectory of the individual members of The Clipse has been quite different. Pusha T’s career as a soloist has thrived. He has been featured on a number of songs most notably the Grammy nominated single “Mercy”. He has also released 2 critically acclaimed studio albums, a mixtape, an EP as well as ascended to the position of president of GOOD Music.
No Malice’s path has differed from his brother’s in that he does not seem as absorbed in the music as Push. He released a book “Wretched, Pitiful, Poor, Blind & Naked” in 2011 and a solo studio album (“Hear Ye Him”) in 2013 as well as appeared on several Christian rappers’ songs including as Bizzle and Lecrae. He also released a documentary titled “The End of Malice” in 2016. Apart from that he has been relatively quiet on the music front. So after 4 years since his solo debut he’s primed to release the sophomore effort which is titled “Let the Dead Bury the Dead”, and obvious reference to the words of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible.
This announcement of the new album in itself is nothing new as he released the news earlier this year. However, he has recently provided an update on this news by releasing the album artwork, tracklist and official release date. The ten track album will hit outlets on the 18th of August, 2017. In an interview with Rapzilla months ago he explained that the concept of the album.
"I just want to show people that I don't have anyone to keep up with. ... You don't have to be in competition with everyone. Just be the best you that you can be because 'let the dead bury the dead.' This rat race is always going to go on,” No Malice said. This, in my opinion, is a great message to push because we’re living in times where people are in constant competition to attain and achieve things that may not be what they truly wish to. Social pressure is really high thanks in large part to social media. It’s easy to get caught up in the tidal wave of meaningless social competition. On another note I personally like it when an artist releases a concise album. So many albums are crammed with filler content, songs that try to appeal to every demographic or songs that reiterate the same point over and over. I know this is psychological but a concise album gives me the impression that the artist put their very best into the tracks they have compile as opposed to half-assing a crapload of songs just to fill a quota or make the consumer feel like they’re getting a lot of content in one package. The Jay-Z album “4:44” is a great example of this more is less approach.
